Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) scored five goals for the second-consecutive game, but the Post University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Southern Connecticut, 13-11, on Thursday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Diggett is second on the team with 22 goals this season.

Sophomore Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) recorded three goals and two assists. She also added four ground balls and three draw controls. Freshman Jordyn Woltmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) notched her third straight multi-goal game with two scores on the afternoon. Senior Brianna Docimo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added a goal, ground ball, and draw control.

Southern Connecticut jumped out to an early 2-0 at 26:02 lead on goals by Sarah Muise. Diggett put the Eagles on the board with a score off a pass from Polaski at 20:22. The Owls built their lead to 4-1 as Muise added another.

Out of a Post timeout, Docimo controlled the draw and found Polaski. She juked a defender and found the back of the net at the 16:00 mark. Diggett added a man-up goal three minutes later. Freshman Mariah Morris (Vilseck, Germany) controlled the ensuing draw as the Eagles waited for an opening. Polaski tied the game 4-4 with a goal at 10:58.

The Owls answered with two straight goals to take a 6-4 lead. Woltmann brought the Eagles back with goals at 5:34 and 4:25 to tie the score 6-6. Southern Connecticut added a late goal to head into the break ahead 7-6.

Southern Connecticut built its largest lead of the game at 10-6 with three consecutive goals to begin the second half. After shooting wide on a free-position attempt, Polaski regained control of the ball and blasted it past the Owls' goalkeeper. Diggett picked up a ground ball on the Eagles next possession and scored on a free-position shot to make the score 10-8 with 19:08 remaining.

The teams traded goals for the rest of the game as Docimo had the final Post score at the 4:45 mark to make the score 13-11. The Owls attempted to run the clock out, but sophomore Kathy Walker (Dorechester, Mass.) made a save on a late shot by Muise at 1:14 to give the Eagles another chance. Post failed to get a shot off over the final minute.

The Eagles were 3-for-4 on free-position shot on the afternoon. Post turned the ball over just seven times and picked up 11 ground balls.

Post gets back into Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Wednesday, April 3 at Georgian Court. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
