Eagles Drop Heartbreaker To Chestnut Hill In Overtime, 12-11

Post Scores Season-High 11 Goals, Polaski Leads With Four

Box Score

NEWTOWN, Conn. – A goal by Erica Eaby with 2:31 left in the third overtime was the difference as the Post University women's lacrosse team fell to Chestnut Hill, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon at Newtown High School in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. Sophomore Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Conn.) recorded her third multi-goal game of the season with four goals on the day.

Polaski also recorded three assists and two ground balls. Sophomore Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.) scored a season-high three goals to go with five ground balls and three draw controls. Junior Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) scored two goals and had four draw controls.

With the Eagles down 9-8 with 10:41 left, Post picked up the ball after a wide shot by Chestnut Hill. Polaski cleared the ball and found senior Brianna Docimo (Shrewsbury, Conn.). Docimo sprinted towards the goal and bounced the ball past Jennifer Delahanty to tie the game 9-9 with 9:53 remaining.

Chestnut Hill quickly answered as Christina Squillante found Kelsey Moran just after the draw to put the Griffins ahead 10-9 with 8:44 left. Freshman Jessica Lavelle (Thurmont, Md.) picked up a ground ball and got it to Polaski. She found Diggett cutting across the middle to tie the game 10-10 with 7:30 remaining. The Griffins had two free-position attempts with less than 10 seconds remaining but couldn't convert.

The Eagles controlled the opening draw of overtime and slowed the pace of the game down. Baez found the back of the net with eight seconds left in the first extra period to give Post its only lead of the afternoon. Eaby tied the game back up 11-11 quickly off the opening draw of the second extra period.

A foul by the Griffins gave Post possession with 1:53 remaining in the period, but the Eagles were unable to score. Chestnut Hill was unsuccessful on a late free-position shot.

The Eagles took the opening draw of the third overtime period but a quick yellow card left them shorthanded. Eaby ran towards the goal after the foul and scored to end the game.

Post came from two goals down to tie the game twice as neither team could gain an advantage. The Eagles recorded season-highs in goals (11), shots (21), and ground balls (18).

The Eagles hit the turf again tomorrow in non-conference action against Lake Erie College. Opening draw is slated for 11 a.m.
