Eagles Defeated By In-State Rival Bridgeport, 14-4

Diggett and Polaski Score Goals In Third Straight Game

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team fell to Bridgeport on Friday, 14-4, at Knights Field in Bridgeport, Conn. It was the second meeting between the two in last ten days. Junior Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) and sophomore Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) each scored in their third straight game to begin the season.
 
Diggett led the Eagles with two goals and assisted on another. She also picked up a ground ball and two draw controls. Polaskia had a goal and assist to go along with three ground balls and five draw controls. Sophomore Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.) scored her second goal of the season and recorded three draw controls. Sophomore Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) had 10 saves and four ground balls.
 
Neither team could gain an advantage over the first 12 minutes of the game. Baez and senior Brianna Docimo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) both shot wide on free-position attempts in the early going. The Purple Knights got on the board first with a man-up goal at 18:58.
 
After two more Bridgeport goals, Post took the ball up the field off a turnover and Diggett found the back of the net off a pass from Polaski to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 12:35 remaining in the first.
 
The Purple Knights answered quickly with another score at 11:52 and built their lead to 6-1 with 6:48 left in the first. Baez tacked on a late goal with 58 second left as Post headed into the break trailing 7-2.
 
Polaski controlled the opening draw of the second half and scored 27 seconds later off a pass from Diggett that brought the Eagles within four at 7-3, but Post would not draw any closer.
 
Docimo took a shot at the 12:56 mark of the second that was saved by Marissa Gambardella. Freshman Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) picked up the ground ball to keep the possession alive for the Eagles. After two shots by Post, Diggett found the back of the net for her second goal of the day that brought the score to 11-4.
 
The Eagles open conference play on Wednesday, March 20 against Dominican at LaMoy Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
