WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team was defeated on Wednesday afternoon by American International (AIC), 15-4, at LaMoy Field. Sophomore
Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) led the Eagles with three goals on the day.
Polaski also grabbed four ground balls and three draw controls. Junior
Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) scored a goal, had three ground balls, and two draw controls. Sophomore
Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) saved 13 shots in goal.
The Eagles got on the board quickly in the first as Polaski found the back of the net just 36 seconds into the game. The Yellow Jackets answered with a goal by Cheyenne Carden to even the score at 1-1 at 28:40. Polaski took a shot off a free position attempt minutes later, but Lissy Doherty made the save for AIC.
The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good at the 26:45 mark of the first as Whitney McKay scored her first of the game. After a save by Walker at 15:22, Polaski grabbed a pass and sprinted down the field but was denied a goal by Doherty. AIC scored six unanswered goals to close out the first half and led 6-1 at the break.
Polaski scored the Eagles second goal of the game at the 21:40 mark of the first on a free position attempt to make the score 9-2. Walker made back-to-back saves with 17:11 remaining but Carrie Davis found the back of the net to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 11-2.
Post got on the board again with 9:56 left as Polaski scored her third of the day to make the score 13-3. Diggett scored the final goal of the game at 1:32 off a man-up free position attempt.
The Eagles were 10-for-11 on clear attempts and grabbed 15 ground balls on the day.
Post will be back in action on Friday, March 15 at Bridgeport. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
