PREVIEW: Baccielo Looks For Career Record With Two Home Games This Week

WATERBURY, Conn. – The No. 15 Post University men's soccer team looks to extend its winning streak with two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) home games this week. The Eagles square off against Felician on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. and Philadelphia on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. Sophomore Francisco Sastre (Sao Paolo, Brazil) has scored in four straight games, the longest streak since 2009, and was just named CACC Player of the Week.
 
Last Time Out: Post 3, Wilmington 1 – Box Score | Recap
The Eagles won their sixth straight game on Saturday 3-1 at Wilmington. After falling behind on a Wildcats' goal by Elton Joe, Post answered with three second-half scored for the victory. Post took the lead in the second half with two quick goals. Sastre tied the score in the 58th minute with a shot deflected off the defender into the goal. Senior Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) scored two minutes later off a pass from Sastre to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
 
Post put the game away with another score in the 72nd minute. Senior Kevin Ipina (Danbury, Conn.) found Sastre on the left side. Sastre shot it to the right side for his second goal of the game and fifth in the last four games.
                                              
Scouting the Golden Falcons
Felician comes into the week at 1-7-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play. The Golden Falcons' lone victory came 2-0 against Nyack on Sept. 24. Junior midfielder Rafa Coronel leads the attack with three goals on the season. Senior goalkeeper Daniel Wroblewski has a 1.59 goals against average. Felician is ranked 36th in the nation with 5.44 saves per game.

Post is 7-5-2 all-time against the Golden Falcons, but is 6-0-2 against Felician since 2006. Last season the two played to a 1-1 draw.

Scouting the Rams
Philadelphia is right behind Post in the CACC standings at 5-1 in conference play and 7-3 overall. The Rams have shutout their last three opponents. Victor Chagonda and Angelo Dambalas lead the team with three goals each. Philadelphia is seventh in the nation with shutouts in 60% of their games.

Post is 3-1-1 against the Rams since 2008, but has never dropped a match at home. Last season, the two played to a 3-3 tie, Francis Eno recorded a hat trick.

Clean Sheets For Lindsay
Senior goalkeeper Andre Lindsey (Clarendon, Jamaica) has allowed just three goals this season and recorded shutouts in six of Post's victories. He leads the conference in goals against average (0.320) and shutouts (6); and is second in save percentage (.893). As of the Oct. 8 NCAA report, he is third in the nation in goal against average and fourth in save percentage.
 
Creating Chances
Post has outshot its opponents 131-78 this season. The Eagles held a 15-7 advantage last time out against Wilmington. Post does most of its damage in the second half as it holds a 70-48 shot advantage in the final period this year.
 
Defending The Prize
The Eagles have one of the top defenses in the country. They have allowed just two goals all season and are ranked third in the country in goals against average at 0.32. Post is also third in the nation with shutouts in 67% of their games, six total. The Eagles have a .893 save percentage which is good for fourth in the NCAA.
 
Jumping Into The National Spotlight
The Eagles are currently ranked No. 15 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll released on Oct. 1. It marks the second time this season Post is ranked in the Top 25. The Eagles have been regionally ranked all season.

Accolades From The Conference
Three members of the Post University men's soccer team have been honored by the CACC this season. On Sept. 9. Raphael Moura was selected as Co-Player of the Week and Andre Lindsay was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week. Lindsay was also named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9. Francisco Sastre was named conference player of the week on Oct. 7. Lindsay has been named to the Honor Roll twice this season.
 
Home Sweet Home
Post is unbeaten in 23 of its last 24 home games. The Eagles are 19-1-4, have outscored opponents 53-12 and posted eight shutouts over the stretch. The lone defeat during the stretch came against Chestnut Hill on Sept. 15. Post is also unbeaten in 17 of its last 18 regular season conference games.
 
Approaching the Record Books
Senior Joe Baccielo is within striking distance of several career records. He sits at 68 career points, one away from tying Maurice Johnson atop the career list.  Baccielo has also scored 27 goals, five behind Eurica Trowers' record of 32 and is four back of Johan Pineda with 14 career assists. Senior Kevin Ipina sits at 11 career assists, seven back of the record.
 
Eagles Against Nationally Ranked Opponents
Post picked up its first-ever win against a nationally ranked team on Sept. 5 in a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Southern New Hampshire. It was the third time the Eagles squared off against an NSCAA Top 25 team. Post has one more game against a nationally ranked opponent this season on Oct. 23 against No. 2 LIU-Post at home.

Bringing Home the Hardware
The Eagles won a record number of awards in 2012. Senior Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) received eight regional and national honors including, CACC Player of the Year, NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Third Team All-American, and Capital One Second Team Academic All-American. Senior Kevin Ipina (Danbury, Conn.) was named NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-American. Sophomore Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) received CACC Rookie of the Year and head coach Ted Haley was honored as conference coach of the year. Additionally, the team received the NSCAA Team Academic Award and placed three on the CACC All-Academic Team.
 
Tough Slate Ahead
The Eagles will play a 16-match schedule that features matchups with five of the top eight teams in the East Region in 2012 and three NCAA Tournament participants. Post opens the season on the road against Southern New Hampshire on Sept. 5. On Sept. 25, Post plays Dominican on the road in a rematch of the 2012 CACC Championship game.  LIU-Post makes its first-ever appearance at LaMoy Field on Oct. 23. The Pioneers were ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA Poll after beginning the 2012 season 12-0-0.
 
Preseason Prognostications
The Post men's soccer team was tabbed to finish first in the CACC in the Preseason Poll released on Aug. 20. The Eagles received seven first-place votes and 157 points as voted on by the league's 13 head coaches.
 
On The Horizon
Post is on the road all next week. The Eagles take a break from CACC play with a non-conference matchup against Bentley at Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 3:30 p.m. Post visits Georgian Court on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
