Eagles Clipped By Chargers In Women’s Lacrosse, 21-7

Post Drops Fourth Straight; Led By Two Goals Each From Mallorie Michalak And Morgan Kanavy

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team dropped its fourth straight game, a 21-7 setback to Dominican in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Tuesday at LaMoy Field. The Eagles offense was paced by graduate student Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn.) and junior Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) who scored two goals apiece.
 
Dominican (1-3, 1-1 CACC) opened the game on a 9-1 run over the first 13:45 of the contest. The lone Post goal during the stretch came from Kanavy who converted a free-position attempt at the 26:15 mark, when the Eagles had a man advantage.
 
After the Chargers' run, Post (1-5, 0-3 CACC) scored consecutive goals to cut the deficit to six goals, 9-3, with 12:26 left in the opening half. The tallies came from Kanavy and freshman Alanna Bauche (Calgary, Alberta). However, Dominican grew its lead to nine goals, 15-6 by halftime.
 
Dominican outscored Post 6-1 in the second half and scored the first five goals of the stanza over a span of 6:24 to grow the lead to 20-6 with 23:36 to play in the game. Michalak netted Post's only goal of the second half with 10:53 to play. The Eagles were on an extra-man opportunity at the time of the goal.
 
Post was a perfect 2-for-2 in extra-man opportunities and held a 21-20 advantage in ground balls. Individually, Allison Smithwick led the Dominican offense with a game-high six goals.
 
Post will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., for a CACC contest at Holy Family on Thursday, March 22. Following the matchup against the Tigers, the Eagles will play three straight home games, a stretch which begins Saturday, March 24, against Chestnut Hill.
