Women’s Lacrosse Falls In CACC Opener

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team was defeated in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Sunday afternoon as the fell in Philadelphia 24-3. The Eagles scored all three of their goals in the second half.
 
Sophomore Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.), freshman Alanna Bauche (Calgary, Alberta), and junior Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) provided the offense for the Eagles with a goal apiece. Kanavy and freshman Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) each picked up two ground balls.
 
The Rams offense started early as they scored seven goals over a three minute stretch to take a 7-0 lead at the 24:27 mark of the first half. Caribeth Shappell scored twice for Philadelphia during the run. Philadelphia scored seven more goals in the first half, including three by Kalin Hodel, to head into the break with a 14-0 advantage.
 
Post (1-2, 0-1 CACC) got on the board at the 28:43 mark of the second half as Bauche found the back of the net. After three more Rams' goals, Polaski found Diggett, who netted her seventh score of the season, with 18:18 remaining, to make the score 17-2. Kanavy scored at the 7:28 mark of the second stanza.
 
The Eagles had 11 draw controls on the day. Post played well defensively on free-position attempts, holding the Rams to just one goal on five shots. Hodel scored six goals for Philadelphia.
 
Post will be back in action on Wednesday, March 14, as they travel to take on in-state rival Southern Connecticut State. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
