WATERBURY, Conn. (March 2, 2011) Post University's women's lacrosse team fell to Queens College in the season opener Wednesday afternoon 24-9 in Shirley, NY.
Stephanie Marran scored four goals and one assist in her first career start as an Eagle.
Freshman
Meghan Diggett scored three goals while
Mallorie Michalak had two goals and one assist. Heather Rosen and Kayleen Kelty each scored five for Queens College as goalkeeper Kahli Evans picked up the win.
Eagle Jackie Jolles made 18 saves in the game which is now the school record for the second year program.
Queens came out of the box strong scoring the first four goals of the game. It was Marran's unassisted first career goal with 15:54 remaining in the first half that put the Eagles on the scoreboard.
Diggett scored two of her goals in the first half and Michalak scored one as Queens College had an 11-4 lead at the half. The assists came from the combination of Marran and
Sara Cramer.
Just 11 seconds into the second half Queens struck with a goal from Brittany Wooster. Diggett responded though in just 48 seconds assisted by Michalak. Queens continued attacking offensively, but the Eagles fought until the end as Marran tallied the final two goals in the game, with both coming in the closing minutes.
The Eagles will return to competition for a 1pm game at the University of Bridgeport on Friday March 4.
