Women's lacrosse comes out strong, falls to Philly U., 19-6

WATERBURY, Conn. (March 13, 2011)---The Post University women's lacrosse team fell to Philadelphia University,19-6, at Edward Arum Field at Pomperaug High School on Sunday.

The Eagles (1-2, 0-1 CACC) got off to a terrific start, storming out to a 2-0 lead on two beautiful goals by standout midfielder Stephanie Marran.

Marran now has a team-high 11 goals on the season.

After a Philadelphia goal, Katie Price found the back of the net for the Eagles, making the game 3-1.

Jacquelline Jolles was outstanding to start, coming up with several impressive saves in the first half. She finished with 16 stops on 46 Philadelphia shots.

The Eagles also were very strong off the draw, winning four of the first five attempts and controlling the ball for most of the beginning of the game.

Philadelphia University (1-1, 1-0 CACC) struck back later in the half, tying the score on a goal from Emily Ray, who led the Rams with five goals on the game.

Nicole Lijana had four goals for Philadelphia.

Freshman Shelby Cocks scored her third career goal late in the second half, bringing the Eagles to within 17-6 with 3:41 to play in the game.

Post University returns to Pomperaug on Wednesday to take on American International College. Start time is scheduled for 4 pm.
