WATERBURY, Conn (October 18, 2011) Post University freshman women's soccer player
Elin Nyman ranked first in the nation for goals scored per game. The weekly NCAA rankings were released this week putting Nyman on top supported by her 13 goals with a per game average of 1.44.
“She has obviously been a great addition and has very good composure,” said
Matt Micros, Eagles Head Coach. “She has a knack for finishing and you can't teach that. She has given everyone else a little confidence by finishing and has made the most of her chances.”
Nyman has scored in every game so far this season with the exception of the game on Saturday against Philadelphia. She has led the Eagles third place in the conference standings.
Nyman scored three goals in the game at Wilmington earlier this month and had a string of four games with two or more goals in contests against Felician, Chestnut Hill, Nyack, and Wilmington.
Goldey-Beacom freshman Alexandra Smith sits second in the nation scoring 1.18 goals per game.
“We have a small roster and early in the season it was hurting us, but she (Nyman) has been putting away opportunities that a lot of people miss,” added Micros. “She has that ability and a nose for the goal. She compliments
Renel Dennis and
Sabrina Sinopoli and it is a nice combination.”
The Eagles return to competition on Saturday against Holy Family for senior day.
