Women's Soccer Blanked by Saint Michael's College in 2025 Season Opener

WATERBURY, Conn. – Sophomore forward Scarlett Brookes tallied a pair of goals for Saint Michael's College as the Purple Knights spoiled the 2025 season opener for Post University Women's Soccer and the coaching debut of first-year Head Coach Meagan Ryan on Sunday afternoon at LaMoy Field, taking down the Eagles, 3-0.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Saint Michael's College 3

Post University (0-1-0)

Saint Michael's College (3-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Entering the game, Brookes already had three goals to her name on the young season after scoring once against Millersville on September 4th, followed by two goals against Chestnut Hill College a day later. Nearing the 27th minute of play, the sophomore broke free through the Post defense to challenge junior goalkeeper Aryn Nisbet one-on-one, beating her to the right side to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 edge.

Looking to mount a response later in the first half, junior midfielder Audrey Cadman found herself in open space to the right side of freshman goalkeeper Chloe Lazier, but Lazier challenged the junior before she could get a shot off, making the stop to quell the threat. Cadman would be responsible for one of the only two shots on goal the Eagles were able to manufacture against a Purple Knights defense that held them to only three shots overall.

In contrast, Saint Michael's rifled 33 shots on the afternoon, 13 of which made it on net against Nisbet. Despite an impressive 10 saves from the junior, three would squeak through, including two more in the second half to extend the lead for the visitors. Scoring only 49 seconds into the second half was Brookes again on a through ball by senior midfielder Bella DelVecchio, which chipped over her foot and caromed by Nisbet to make it a 2-0 game.

Winding down into the final 10 minutes of the match, junior forward Casey Havrda would put home the initial save by Nisbet on a high shot from freshman forward Adney Brannigan, capping off the trio of goals for Saint Michael's. Post's final shot on goal would come from around the 20-yard line from Cadman with under two minutes remaining, which was secured by Lazier, who earned her first collegiate shutout after making two saves in the 3-0 win for her squad.
