Men's Golf Picks Up First Invite Win of Season, Phillip Granum Finishes Tied for First in STAC Invitational

POMONA, N.Y. -- The first win of the season for Post University Men's Golf could not have come at a better time than Tuesday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational in Pomona, New York. Holding on to their day one lead, the Eagles came away with a seven-stroke victory over host school St. Thomas Aquinas College, as NCAA Regional selections are just around the corner on April 26th, with Post having entered the week in seventh among the East Region rankings, with seven teams earning a berth out of the eight listed.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The final round saw the Eagles shoot a two-day best at two-over-par, while the Spartans matched it, which allowed them to move into second ahead of Wilmington University, which finished 13-over-par in round three and 30-over-par overall in third. Post closed at 17-over-par, while St. Thomas Aquinas was 24-over-par in the one-two spots, while the four through seven slots did not change over from day one.

What would change over is the leaders as freshman Phillip Granum, who entered the day four-over-par, closed at two-under-par in round three, moving into a three-way tie with Josh Freeman from Wilmington, who had led after day one, and Diego Ocasio from the Spartans, who all were two-over-par following their third rounds. Granum would lose in the individual playoff tiebreaker, while Ocasio shot the best for any golfer in round three at four-under-par, while Freeman was six-over-par.

Not far behind the tie for first were a trio of golfers, headlined by graduate student Joe Ensign at three-over-par following his two-over-par third round, giving him fourth place in the event. Junior Braden Shea also turned in a top-ten finish, shooting two-over-par, like Ensign did, in round three, to tie for eighth at six-over-par.

Post's final two golfers of the event, junior Flo Schimek and freshman Luis Reina, finished tied for 12th and 18th, respectively, posting final scores of 10-over-par and 14-over-par. The win for the Eagles as a team was their first since the Saint Anselm Spring Invitational last April, which they tied.
