Ensign in Top Three, Men's Golf Leads Pack After Day One at St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational

PONOMA, N.Y. -- Graduate student Joe Ensign continued his momentum from a strong finish in the Penmen Season Finale over the weekend, finishing the first two rounds of the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational in second place at one-over-par, finishing even in round one and one-over-par in round two for the top-three finish heading into day two. Post University Men's Golf as a team currently leads the event at 15-over-par, two strokes ahead of Wilmington University, which is at 17-over-par, and seven strokes up on third-place St. Thomas Aquinas College at 22-over-par.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the Eagles as a team, if they can hold on to first after the third round on Tuesday, they would pick up their first team victory since tying for first in the Saint Anselm Spring Invitational last April, which was a single-round event. Looking for his third career win, Ensign sits five strokes behind Josh Freeman of Wilmington, who leads everyone at four-under-par, while Jaden Minter from Jefferson University is right behind Ensign in third at two-over-par.

Of the five golfers for Post, three of them reside in the top ten, as after Ensign, both junior Braden Shea and freshman Phillip Granum are tied for sixth at four-over-par, which five total golfers sit at after two rounds. Shea shot rounds of one-over-par and three-over-par, while Granum improved from four-over-par down to even par round over round.

Also tied in the standings are both freshman Luis Reina and junior Flo Schimek in 17th place, as Schimek shot even then 10-over-par in his two rounds, while Reina was two-over-par and eight-over-par on the day.
