Men's Golf in 10th Place After First Day of The Trojan Invitational

GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- Returning for the spring, Post University Men's Golf got started at The Trojan Invitational hosted by the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina on Monday, playing two rounds and coming out of it in 10th place at 25-over-par, while Barton College leads the pack at a blistering five-under-par with one round on Tuesday to go.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Although appearing to be towards the bottom, the pack is closer than it would seem despite Barton running away with first place, holding an eight-stroke lead over Lenoir-Rhyne in second place at five-under-par, followed by Belmont Abbey's B Team at 14-over-par in a tie with their A Team in third.

Beyond those four teams, fifth place down to the Eagles are separated by just 10 strokes, as two teams in Wilmington and Glenville State are tied for sixth at 20-over-par, followed by Ferrum and Chowan at 24-over-par. Sandwiched just ahead of that pack in fifth was Mount Olive at 19-over-par.

As for Post, they would be led again by none other than graduate student Joe Ensign, who closed the day tied for 14th after shooting three-over-par, starting with a six-over-par round one, followed by a three-under-par second round. Freshman Luis Reina was the second-best scoring Eagle in a tie for 35th, also dropping his score from round one to round two with a seven-over-par finish, turning in a one-over-par second round showing.

Fellow freshman Gavin Giroux was nearby Reina at 10-over-par in a tie for 43rd, after a strong two-over-par in round one before falling back in round two with an eight-over-par. Separated by just one stroke were freshman Phillip Granum (T-52nd) and junior Braden Shea (T-55th) at 12-over-par and 13-over-par, respectively, with Granum dropping two strokes off his second round total at five-over-par, while Shea increased by one stroke round over round to seven-over-par. Rounding out the five for the Eagles was junior Flo Schimek, who was tied alongside Shea at 13-over-par, going from one-over in round one to 12-over in round two.

Four different Post players competed as independent entries in sophomore Jack O'Brien (T-52nd, 12-over-par), freshman Dominic Giamei (T-60th, 14-over-par), senior Natha Leonard (T-67th, 20-over-par), and freshman Edward Grinvalsky (76th, 37-over-par).
