Soarin' Beyond the Sport, Episode 18: Tristan Currie (Women's Ice Hockey)

Soarin' Beyond the Sport is a series in which members of the Post University Athletic Communications Team sit down with student-athletes across all the varsity athletic programs offered at Post University to learn more about interesting stories about the players off the field, court, ice, etc., in a short interview format. All the interview questions, filming, editing, and write-ups are done by the featured member of the Athletic Communications Team to help them gain new experiences in a variety of important aspects in the field.

In this episode, Athletic Communications Fall Intern Kianna Kieras sat down with Post University Women's Ice Hockey senior forward Tristan Currie to discuss playing ice hockey and her competition in the barrel racing and pole bending spheres off the ice, highlighting how the two sports differ.

WATERBURY, Conn. – In this Athlete Spotlight, senior forward Tristan Currie, a member of the Post University Women's Ice Hockey team, talks about her passions off the ice as the senior competes in rodeo events such as barrel racing and pole bending. Throughout the interview, Currie explains how she balances two high-intensity sports that require different skill sets, preparation styles, and mental approaches.

The forward describes her experience living a "double life" since hockey and rodeo exist in two completely different worlds, yet both demand intense focus, split-second decision making, and mental preparation. A major theme of the interview was visualization, as Currie described how she mentally prepares for both hockey games and rodeo competitions by running through plays or patterns in advance.

Additionally, the Eagle focused on her relationship with her horse and how rodeo has taught her patience in a way hockey never could. She emphasized that training a horse takes time, trust, and consistency, and that success cannot be rushed. This perspective added depth to the story and showed how her experiences outside of hockey have shaped her as an athlete and person.

Post University hits the road next weekend for a two-game set against Franklin Pierce University on 7:00 PM on both Friday and Saturday. The two teams split their two-game set at the Sports Center of Connecticut back in October, with the Ravens winning the first game, 2-0, and the Eagles coming back in the second game with a 3-2 victory.
