Men's Golf Bumps Up One Spot Heading into Final Day of NCAA Regional

ERIE, Penn. -- To make their second consecutive NCAA National Championship appearance, Post University Men's Golf will have to make up some ground on the final day of the NCAA Regional on Saturday in Erie, Pennsylvania. Finishing day two 30-over-par, the Eagles currently sit at 58-over-par for the event and 23 strokes off the pace of the fifth and final championship spot held currently by Livingstone at 35-over-par. At the same time, Gannon leads the entire regional at 12-over-par, holding a six-stroke lead over Davis & Elkins at 18-over-par with 18 holes to play.

Team Results – T-13th Out of 20 Teams (+58, 634)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Among the 20 teams today, the Eagles scored the 12th-best in round two, and everyone but Gannon, who finished one-over-par as a team, finished 10-over-par or higher on Friday afternoon. As it stands heading into Saturday, Gannon, Davis & Elkins, Charleston (WV), Adelphi, and Livingstone are all on the verge of qualifying for the NCAA National Championship. Still, Pitt-Johnstown sits only two strokes back of fifth-place Livingstone, while St. Thomas Aquinas College is six strokes behind.

Aiden Talent from Davis & Elkins continues to pace the individual field at three-under-par, leading Gannon's Rasmus Seppanen by two strokes at one-under-par, and Southern New Hampshire University's Jack Pepin sits at even with par to round out the top three golfers so far this week. As for Post, they continue to be led by senior Joe Ensign, who, with a four-over-par finish in round two, is tied for 13th with two other golfers at six-over-par.

Both junior Nathan Leonard and sophomore Flo Schimek are tied for 56th place at 15-over-par, as Leonard was eight-over-par, while Schimek finished six-over-par, improving on his round one score in which he was nine-over-par. Junior Miles Maresch was near-identical in round two, shooting 12-over-par following a 10-over-par effort on day one, dropping into a tie for 82nd at 22-over-par.

Utilizing the substitute in round two, sophomore Braden Shea golfed for freshman Brandon Frye, finishing at 20-over-par, but because he and Frye split the first two rounds, they appear ranked 109th and 111th on the leaderboard as Frye was 16-over-par on day one.
