WATERBURY, Conn. -- With the 2024-25 New England Women's Hockey Alliance Tournament Quarterfinals kicking off tonight with Post University Women's Ice Hockey traveling up to face Franklin Pierce University in a best-of-three series, history was made for the program with the announcement of the NEWHA All-Conference and Major Awards with senior forward
Julia Wysocki, junior goalie
Hannah Saunders, and freshman forward
Rowyn Ringor cleaning up across the board for the Eagles in the major awards.
For the first time ever, Post saw players land on the All-Conference Team as Wysocki and Saunders were named First Team while Ringor was named Second Team and additionally All-Rookie Team, becoming the first player since junior forward
Maddy Noonan and third all-time to earn the honor for the program. Saunders was also named to the All-Sportswomanship Team, an honor that highlights one player from each team for their sportsmanship on the ice against their opponents.
But more than that, in addition to it being their first time landing major awards, the Eagles became the first team in the conference to win three major player awards in the same season with Wysocki being named Player of the Year, Saunders earning Goalie of the Year, and Ringor rounding out the trio by winning Rookie of the Year. Last season, LIU had two players win major awards for Defensive Player and Goalie of the Year while Kelly Nash won Coach of the Year, an honor that she repeated this season, but in terms of player awards, Post is the first team to have three take home major awards.
The program leader in multiple categories entering the playoffs, Wysocki had a breakout senior season with 17 goals, a new single-season record, and nine assists for a program-record 26 points this season in 33 games. Hitting all of those marks, the senior currently sits at 132 games played in her career with a program-best 31 goals, 22 assists, and 53 points. Preparing to take on Franklin Pierce tonight, Wysocki has scored three goals against the Ravens in four outings so far this season.
But she could not have generated all that offense without the emergence of Ringor in her freshman year with the Eagles either. In 34 games this season, Ringor was equally as impressive as Wysocki with 10 goals and a program record of 15 assists while tying the program record for single-season points at 25 before her linemate in Wysocki broke it in the final regular season game. The freshman accounted for three power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and two game-winning goals while picking up three assists in four games against Franklin Pierce.
Rounding out the success of this season between the pipes was Saunders, the new single-season and program leader in multiple categories as well. Landing on the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association Goalie of the Year Watch List this season, Saunders had a program-record six shutouts, nine wins, and 777 saves while generating only a 1.92 goals-against average and .941 save percentage across 26 games played. The junior now owns the program record for most shutouts in a season as well as a career and wins in a season and a career. As it stands, she will likely break the single-season and program records for save percentage and goals-against average depending on how this weekend and next year pan out.
Post University travels to face two-seeded Franklin Pierce University this weekend in a best-of-three against the Ravens for the NEWHA Quarterfinals starting this afternoon at 4:00 PM with Game 1.
