WATERBURY, Conn. -- For only the second time in program history, the Northeast-10 Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Year comes from the Post University Men's Ice Hockey program as freshman defenseman
Aidan Canady was named the 2024-25 Rookie of the Year for the conference in addition to being All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie Team. Freshman forward
Scotty Swain also joined Canady on the All-Rookie Team as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Canady becomes the second player in program history to be named Rookie of the Year alongside Nick Weber during the 2022-23 season, but first Eagle to be Rookie of the Year while also making an All-Conference Team. In 2022-23, Weber was named Rookie of the Year as well as All-Rookie Team while Canady swept all three categories, Joining him on the All-Rookie Team was Swain, marking the second consecutive year and second season in general in which two Eagles have been named to the All-Rookie Team in the same season.Â
A Joe Concannon Award Semifinalist, Canady put up a team-high 15 assists while playing defense and scoring two goals along the way as well for a total of 17 points across his 27 games played. The freshman finished the season ninth in the conference for most assists and went on a tear during the middle of the season, racking up nine points in a seven-game span which included a four-game point streak. A +10 on the ice this season, Canady set a new program record for single-season plus/minus while being a one-time NE10 Rookie of the Week en route to his record-breaking three NE10 honors.
As for Swain, he was a two-time NE10 Rookie of the Week during the Eagles' 2024-25 campaign, playing in 26 games in which he scored five goals and added two assists for a total of seven points. The freshman had the game-winning goal against Assumption University on December 7th, 2024 to help Post sweep the Greyhounds for the first time in program history with a 2-1 win at home. Swain also tallied his first career multi-goal game against Southern New Hampshire University on January 24th, scoring twice in a 5-1 victory, which also marked the first time he scored in back-to-back games after doing so three days before in a 3-1 win at home against Franklin Pierce University.Â
