WATERBURY, Conn. -- For the first time under the revised Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Team criteria, Post University Men's Ice Hockey landed a pair of players to the honor in senior goalie
Benjamin Cunneen and sophomore defenseman
Aidan Canady as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
In order to qualify for the NE10 Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes had to meet the following criteria:
1. Named to their sport's All-Conference team (First, Second, Third, or Defensive),
2. Must have spent at least two consecutive full-time semesters at the institution (not including the last semester completed – cannot include Fall 2025)
3. Must have minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 (for both UG and GR).
Both Cunneen and Canady were named to the NE10 All-Conference Second Team for their performances this season with the Eagles, who made it to the NE10 Conference Tournament Semifinals before falling to top-seeded and conference champion Assumption University in overtime, 2-1, while having spent two consecutive semesters at Post prior to this fall, and both having 4.00 GPAs throughout their time at the institution.
On the ice, Canady appeared in 29 games, scoring five goals and adding 15 assists for 20 points. The sophomore had 15 assists in each of his first two seasons, tying him for the third-most assists for a single season in program history, while holding the plus/minus season record last year at +10, and with 20 points this year, tying for fifth-most in a single season. In the career records, Canady is now tied for fourth-most assists with 30, needing just 12 more to break the all-time record.
As for Cunneen, he turned in a record-breaking senior season in which he earned the first shutout win in program history as part of a five-shutout season that tied him for the conference's all-time single-season record, while going 9-14-1 in net. Cunneen appeared in 25 games spanning 1424:53 minutes, allowing 54 goals for a 2.27 goals-against average and .931 save percentage with 725 saves. For a single season, he is the program's leader in minutes with his mark from this season, goals-against average, which was the same this year and last year, and save percentage from last season, which was .939 overall.
