WATERBURY, Conn. -- In the past few seasons, Post University Men's Ice Hockey has continued to slowly make a name for itself in the Northeast-10 Conference awards, and this year was no different, as senior goalie
Benjamin Cunneen and sophomore defenseman
Aidan Canady were named to the NE10 All-Conference Second Team as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
Canady is coming off another big year after his freshman season saw him get named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team, become a Joe Concannon Award Semifinalist, the NE10 Rookie of the Year, and NE10 All-Conference Second Team. Earning his Second Team honor this year, Canady appeared in 29 games, scoring five goals and adding 15 assists for 20 points. The sophomore had 15 assists in each of his first two seasons, tying him for the third-most assists for a single season in program history, while holding the plus/minus season record last year at +10, and with 20 points this year, tying for fifth-most in a single season. In the career records, Canady is now tied for fourth-most assists with 30, needing just 12 more to break the all-time record.
Arguably a candidate for NE10 Goalie of the Year too, Cunneen turned in a record-breaking senior season in which he earned the first shutout win in program history as part of a five-shutout season that tied him for the conference's all-time single-season record, while going 9-14-1 in net. Cunneen appeared in 25 games spanning 1424:53 minutes, allowing 54 goals for a 2.27 goals-against average and .931 save percentage with 725 saves. Cunneen goes down as the program's career leader in goals-against average (2.81), shutouts (5), wins (22), and save percentage (.921). For a single season, he is the program's leader in minutes with his mark from this season, goals-against average, which was the same this year and last year, and save percentage from last season, which was .939 overall.
