Hoen and Saunders Earn NEWHA Weekly Awards for Women's Ice Hockey

WATERBURY, Conn. -- A weekend sweep for Post University Women's Ice Hockey helped lead them to two NEWHA Weekly Awards as senior goalie Hannah Saunders was named the NEWHA Goalie of the Week, while junior defenseman Emma Hoen was named NEWHA Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Hoen had a breakout weekend for Post on the offensive end of the ice. Hoen tallied two goals, one in each game, and an assist for three total points in the Eagles' sweep of Saint Michael's College on the road. Hoen was a +5 on the ice with 13 shots on goal and a blocked shot.

Saunders went 2-0-0 between the pipes against Saint Michael's College for Post, making 53 total saves on 55 attempts from the Purple Knights. Recording her first shutout of the season, Saunders stopped all 34 shots she faced in a 5-0 Friday win before making 19 stops on Saturday in a 3-2 win.

Post University returns home next weekend for a pair of games against Saint Anselm College, starting on Friday night with an 8:00 PM puck drop at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Connecticut. The Eagles won their first-ever home game against the Hawks last season to end their four head-to-head matchups, 3-0, on February 1st.
