With Two Weeks Until Puck Drop, Women's Ice Hockey Picked for Seventh-Place Finish in NEWHA Preseason Poll

WATERBURY, Conn. -- With a new era of Post University Women's Ice Hockey set to get underway in just under two weeks against the University of St. Thomas under first-year Head Coach Pat Bingham, the Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance for the 2024-25 season, garnering 13 points in the Preseason Poll released by the conference on Friday morning.

Last season, Post went 8-28-1 overall with a program-best 7-20-1 record in conference play as well as recorded their first-ever NEWHA Tournament victory against Saint Anselm College in Game Two of the best-of-three series last winter which was also the team's first win in program history against the Hawks as well. Entering last year, Post was picked to finish sixth in the conference with 18 points just ahead of Assumption University who is this year's pick to finish sixth with 21 points.

Not much will change with the Eagles in terms of their roster from last year as they graduated just three seniors in forwards Jade Giebrecht and Holly Kubichek along with starting goaltender Grace Glasrud. Giesbrecht missed the end of last season with injury, playing in only 21 games while Kubichek played in 33 of 37 games scoring one goal and adding two assists. Glasrud started in 21 games last season for Post, allowing 3.10 goals per game and holding a .924 save percentage en route to a 5-16-0 record during the year while making 771 saves and giving up 63 goals.

Now a junior, goaltender Hannah Saunders looks to take over between the pipes after playing in 14 games and starting in 13 of those games in which she pitched two shutouts while going 3-9-1 while allowing 38 goals for a 2.91 goals against average and 499 saves for a .929 save percentage. Saunders was the starting goalie in Post's NEWHA Tournament win over Saint Anselm, making a career-high 62 saves in that 2-1 win.

Otherwise, everyone who ended the season on the Eagles will be returning to the ice this winter with the addition of four newcomers in defensemen Caryss Kehl and Ruby Mitchell as well as forward Rowyn Ringor and goaltender Devyn Admundson. Junior defenseman Paige Pipher joins the team for her first year, playing the last two seasons on the Post University Women's Lacrosse team.

All the multi-goal scorers from last year's squad are back which includes junior Tristan Currie who led the team with eight goals followed by senior Julia Wysocki and sophomore Macy Peterson who tied with five goals each. Senior Maddy Noonan led last year's team with 10 assists while also chipping in three goals on top of that.

Last season, it was Stonehill College winning their first NEWHA Championship to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament over Franklin Pierce University, 3-2, in overtime. This season, the Skyhawks are picked to finish second with 41 points and one first-place vote while the Ravens are picked to finish fifth, the same place they finished last season before making their NEWHA Tournament run. Three-time defending regular season champion Long Island University (LIU) was picked to win the NEWHA again with 47 points and five first-place votes. The Sharks went 26-2-0 in conference play last year to win the regular season crown before falling to Franklin Pierce, 4-3, in overtime.
