Softball Goes Back-to-Back, Tops Division II for Second Consecutive Year in Easton/NFCA Team GPA

WATERBURY, Conn. -- For the second straight year, Post University Softball sits alone atop the East/NFCA Team GPA Award for NCAA Division II teams. After winning the award last year with a team GPA of 3.82, the Eagles finished with a 3.84 GPA which ties the all-time record for the highest GPA in the history of the award being issued with Urbana University setting that same mark back in 2017-18 en route to their victory that year.

While Post owned the second-highest GPA in the history of the award last year with their 3.82 mark, second-place Lincoln Memorial University finished just ahead of that when rounding to the thousandth place, netting a 3.829 GPA, just over 0.01 behind the Eagles. After that was Emporia State University in third at 3.80 while all other teams in the top 10 were below that mark.

Last year, Post joined the University of Bridgeport as the only other Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team to earn the distinction which the Purple Knights did back in 2018-19 with a 3.776 team GPA. But over the last three years, academics for the Eagles under Head Coach Julie Meyer-Jones have improved exponentially as Softball went from a 3.7 GPA during the 2021-22 academic year and a 10th-place finish all the way up to back-to-back first-place finishes with grade-point averages above 3.80 in each of the last two years.

Among all 2023-24 winners across all three NCAA divisions, NAIA, and JUCO, Post's winning GPA was the second-highest with Southern Illinois University ahead of them at a 3.856 GPA. In terms of all-time highest GPA across all those levels in the history of the award, the Eagles coming in at 3.84 placed them tied for sixth all-time with Urbana University while Division I Stanford in 2020-21 finished with a 3.846 GPA, Division III Macalester College's 2021-22 team was at a 3.8507 GPA, Division I Southern Illinois University's 3.856 GPA, Johnson & Wales University who also competes at the Division III level came in with a 3.88 GPA, and the all-time leader is Macalester College, topping out at a 3.905 GPA.

Additionally, 14 players on the Eagles' roster were named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes including Devin Barnett, Allysa Calabrese, Maddison Caldwell, Julianna Cicala, Caitlin DeAngelis, Bailey Dickenson, Brooke Dickenson, Alyssa Hughes, Brianna Hynds, Carli Perruso, Samantha Riccardulli, Juliana Rigano, Jenny Riquelme, and Lily Tomasiello
