WATERBURY, Conn. -- After going nearly .500 in conference play last year and earning the fourth seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division, Post University Women's Volleyball placed fourth in this year's CACC North Division Preseason Poll, earning 40 total points and one first-place vote. Defending conference champion University of Bridgeport was slightly picked to repeat with 66 points and 11 first-place votes just ahead of Jefferson University with 65 points and 10 first-place votes as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.
In Head Coach
Tiffany Verni's second year with the team, the Eagles went 8-24 overall with their one non-conference win coming against Pace University in four sets on November 8th. The other seven victories came against conference opponents, but the non-conference slate featured numerous matchups with NCAA Regional teams from the 2022 campaign as well. Only a handful of those opponents from last season will be on the 2024 schedule for Post who opens the season with three road games, including a trimatch as well as a four-game set at the Long Island Invitational, accounting for 10 of the first 11 matches of the season being on the road.
Only five players departed from last year's team in
Kaitlyn Lemmon,
Kaila Sandy,
Keyah Sinclair,
Kaitlyn Sharkey, and
Niah Mesidor. Both
Caley Harper and
Hannah Brandt, the team's top two leaders in kills are back after producing 382 and 233 kills respectively.
Alyssa Groves will enter her junior year with over 1,000 digs after going for a program record 602 digs last season, bringing her less than 600 away from the all-time program record.Â
Two new graduate transfers enter the nest this fall as
Kristina Peric comes for her first of two years after playing for AIC while
Sara Enright comes from Southern Connecticut State University for her graduate year. Rounding out the newcomers are a trio of freshmen in
Alexa Arnold,
Neviah Johnson, and
Isabella Oliver whose primary positions are listed as defensive specialists and setters.Â
Post University opens up play with a road match against Mercy University at 7:00 PM next Thursday, September 5th. This will be the first time these two teams have faced each other since 2019, a 3-1 loss for the Eagles, and only second time since 2012 in which they have played a match.Â
