WATERBURY, Conn. -- For the seventh consecutive year, Post University has All-American players as Post University Women's Volleyball netted two All-Americans across two different organizations, which released awards on Wednesday afternoon. Senior libero
Alyssa Groves and graduate outside hitter
Kristina Peric were both named D2CCA First Team All-Americans as well as AVCA All-American Honorable Mentions, as announced by the respective organizations on Wednesday.
For Groves, this is the second consecutive year in which she has been named D2CCA First Team All-American, while being Peric's first time making the list as she is now the 15th player in school history across all the sports to be All-American. Both being named to the AVCA All-American Honorable Mention list marks the first time in program history that Post has had any players named AVCA All-Americans.
Groves and Peric being All-Americans in the same year marks the first time in program history in which two players have been named All-Americans for both organizations, after both being the first duo to earn AVCA All-East Region honors in the same year for Women's Volleyball, as well as the first duo to earn First Team All-East Region honors for D2CCA. Skylar German and Brianna Root both were D2CCA All-East Region honorees during the 2016 season; however, Root was a Second Teamer while German made First Team.
The accolades to end Groves' career as an Eagle saw the four-year senior earn back-to-back D2CCA All-American First Team honors as well as D2CCA and AVCA All-East Region First Team honors, CACC Defensive Player of the Year, and CACC All-Conference First Team. This is all in addition to 13 CACC Defensive Player of the Week and three CACC Weekly Honor Roll awards, and not even mentioning the numerous season and career records she broke. In her four years, Groves became the program's all-time leader in digs with 2,591, which is also the conference's new record-breaking mark and the career leader in sets played with 471. She also set the single-season digs record during her junior year with 823 digs and recorded 730 digs this season to go along with 128 assists, 71 service aces, and five kills. She was sixth in the nation in digs per set to end the year with 5.70 across her 32 matches played and never missed a match or set in her career.
As for Peric, this was a year of firsts for her in terms of accolades, seeing her named CACC Player of the Year and D2CCA All-East Region Player of the Year, the second player in program history next to Brianna Root. The graduate student was named to the CACC All-Conference Second Team a year ago before being First Team this year, adding nine CACC Player of the Week and eight CACC Weekly Honor Roll awards over the two years. Peric was a D2CCA All-East Region First Team recipient, to now go along with her first-ever D2CCA All-American First Team and AVCA Honorable Mention honors today.
This year, Peric broke the program's single-season kills record with 621 in 30 matches played, which also placed her third all-time in conference history for most kills in a single year. Additionally, Peric averaged 5.22 kills per set with 1,737 total attacks, finished with a .222 hitting percentage, 330 digs, 45 total blocks, 38 service aces, 22 assists, and 684.5 total points. Her marks placed her first in the nation for attacks per set at 14.60, kills per set, points per set with 5.75, total attacks, and total kills.
