Soarin' Beyond the Sport is a series in which members of the Post University Athletic Communications Team sit down with student-athletes across all the varsity athletic programs offered at Post University to learn more about interesting stories about the players off the field, court, ice, etc., in a short interview format. All the interview questions, filming, editing, and write-ups are done by the featured member of the Athletic Communications Team to help them gain new experiences in a variety of important aspects in the field.
In this episode, Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant, Leah Lockwood, sat down with Post University Women's volleyball outside hitter, Vivien Fehérvári, to discuss her transition from Hungary to the United States, her development as a player as well as her personal life and hobbies.
WATERBURY, Conn. – Vivien Andrea Fehérvári came to the United States in 2023 to play volleyball; however, the outside hitter did not find her start at Post University, but rather as a Trojan at Colby Community College on the opposite side of the United States.
Over 4,000 miles away from home, Fehérvári had to adapt to a new culture, one that, luckily for her, strongly valued sports. Her busy schedule and ability to escape to take photos at local sporting events distracted her from the homesickness when it inevitably hit.
As a Trojan, Fehérvári began to find her footing in the States, thanks to a welcoming coach and a roster that largely housed other international players and emphasized the importance of community and consideration.
Vivien played both years at Colby before transferring to Post this year, where she refined her technique and grew as a player and student. Fehérvári credits Post for her improved court vision and her acquired consistency and stability.
The Eagles finished their season 26-6, losing to No. 1 Bentley University in the second round of the Division II NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament, 3-1.
Fehérvári had a season-high 11 kills against Felician University early in the season and did not let up. She finished the season with 71 total kills and 30 aces. Thanks to her broadened skills on the court, especially in serve-receive, she was able to pass up 306 digs.
