-WATERBURY, Conn. -- Winners in five of the last six Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships and winners of five consecutive titles in five years of competition, Post University Men's Soccer was once again picked to repeat in this year's CACC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll as voted on by the 12 coaches in the conference and announced on Monday morning.
The Eagles received 121 total points as well as 11 first-place votes while the 2023 runner-up University of Bridgeport finished second with 105 total points and one first-place vote. Rounding out the top four with a tie for third was Felician and Wilmington University with 98 points apiece.
En route to their title last season, Post went on a 16-game unbeaten streak before losing in the Round of 16 to best in the nation and back-to-back National Champion Frankin Pierce University. The Eagles played their first-ever home NCAA Tournament match at LaMoy Field before that against West Chester University, winning in penalty kicks, 2-1, after a scoreless 110 minutes from both sides.
Within the conference, the Eagles finished a program-best 9-0-2 against CACC opponents with identical 5-1-3 records at home and on the road while going 3-0-0 in neutral site affairs, leading to an overall record of 13-2-6 on the year.
The roster will look a little different this season as Post saw their top four goal scorers
Aritz Uriate,
Nick Anagnostiadis,
Gentian Selimi, and
Andrea Berti depart as well as starting goalkeeper
Soren Jensen. In all, 17 players on the roster are returners with just over a dozen newcomers to Head Coach
Ted Haley's team as he enters his 20th season at the helm of the program.
Just the other week, Post was ranked 14th in Division II by the United Soccer Coaches Poll, the same mark they finished last year at. The Eagles' season kicks off with the Wilmington Kick Off Invitational next week against AIC on Thursday, September 5th at 1:00 PM before facing Adelphi University on Saturday, September 7th at 1:00 PM.
