Program Record Eight Players Named to CACC All-Conference Team for Baseball

WATERBURY, Conn. -- With all the success the regular season brought for Post University Baseball both at the plate and on the mound, it should come as no surprise to anybody that the Eagles were able to land a copious amount of players on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's All-Conference Teams which were released on Tuesday morning by the league office.

A program record eight players in senior outfielder Michael Pavelchak, junior right-hander Brennan Holligan, and graduate right-hander Joe Christiana each made the First Team while senior outfielder Jaylen Kelley, junior catcher Jimmy Brennan, senior shortstop Evan Cornwell, junior first baseman Chris Corchado, and graduate outfielder DJ Caron were named to the Second Team.

On the mound, Holligan and Christiana were as dominant as ever for the Post pitching staff, as both had earned run averages under 2.70 on the season. For Holligan, he had a stellar 2.49 ERA in 12 appearances and five starts which included three complete games, two shutouts, and two saves across 47 innings of work. The junior allowed just 13 earned runs on 38 hits while setting a career-high in strikeouts with an impressive 51-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 6-2 record overall. Christiana was equally impressive in 10 starts with a 6-1 record and 2.66 ERA that led to four complete games and one shutout in 61 innings pitched. He would also set a new career high in strikeouts with 64 while walking only 16 batters, which was the second-fewest in a season for him, and allowing 18 earned runs.

At the dish, Pavelchak has crept up on history as he enters this week's CACC Tournament just nine hits shy of the all-time record set by Dan Luisi for a career. Playing and starting in all 44 games this season, the senior has amassed a .353 batting average with 55 hits, 26 runs batted in, and 35 walks. Of those 44 games, Pavelchak has reached base safely in 43 of them and currently has a 25-game on-base streak dating back to mid-March against Southern New Hampshire.

Five more players saw their name land on the Second Team starting with Kelley who had spent the previous two seasons battling injuries that kept him off the field. In his first season playing with the team, Kelley did not disappoint as he hit .320 in 27 games with five doubles, three home runs, and 17 RBIs while primarily serving as the designated hitter.

Another mainstay in the lineup, Caron was named to the Second Team as well as he hit .337 with 13 doubles, four triples, four home runs, and 30 runs batted in while starting and playing in 44 games of the Eagles' season thus far. Heading into the tournament, Caron is at 135 career hits at Post but is at 291 for his entire career as he spent four-plus years at Nichols College (NCAA DIII) where he recorded 156 hits.

Another big time hitter in the record books, Brennan also put together a solid season in 38 games played and started, hitting .323 with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 28 runs batted in. Brennan currently sits at 177 career hits and with still one year left at Post, he looks primed to pass Luisi's record of 193 career hits or the mark Pavelchak sets should he break the record in his final season this spring.

On the infield rounding out the five players in the Second Team for Post were Corchado and Cornwell. For Corchado, he leads the team in batting average at .377 on the year in 41 games played and started while manufacturing nine doubles, two home runs, and 27 runs batted in while holding a .991 fielding percentage on 203 putouts and 19 assists. Corchado has committed just two errors on the season and as it stands is just on the outside of the top five for highest single-season average in program history.

When it comes to Cornwell, he was another .300-plus hitter for the Eagles this spring as he currently sits at .321 this spring in 38 games played and started for Post. Cornwell has strung together nine doubles, one home run, and 24 runs batted in while leading the team in stolen bases with 10 and only being thrown out twice on the bases.
