WATERBURY, Conn. -- Becoming only the second player in program history to achieve the honor, Post University Baseball graduate shortstop
Evan Cornwell was named to the ABCA NCAA Division II East Region All-Defensive Team in his final season as an Eagle, as announced by the organization on Thursday. The nine-man team that features one player from each position in each NCAA Division II Region.
Cornwell joins only Danny Gill in 2024 as the only other honoree from Post in program history, while Dylan Pastor in 2014 was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-East Gold Glove list. The announcement from the ABCA comes just a day after the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove honors were released, which every player who makes the All-Defensive Team is eligible to get onto, and honors nine players each from Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, all NJCAA Divisions, Pacific Association, and High School.
The graduate student returned from injury last season, finishing his career with Post having 190 hits in four seasons, coming just four short of setting the program record, which is held by Dan Luisi with 193 hits. Cornwell hit .302 in his final season with the team, playing and starting in 43 games while accumulating 45 hits with five doubles, four triples, and 32 RBIs. Cornwell also scored 35 times while walking 18 times and stealing five bases. In his career, he finished with 100 RBIs and 135 runs scored with a career .308 batting average in 178 games.
In the field, Cornwell finished with a .965 fielding percentage after recording 54 putouts, 110 assists, and only six errors across his 170 total chances.
