BLOOMFIELD, Conn. -- On a rainy Friday in Connecticut, Post University Men's Golf sent a trio of players to the Hartford Hawks Spring Invitational which kicked off its first of two rounds today at the Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield, Connecticut. With only three golfers competing for the Eagles, they did not meet the minimum requirement of five golfers to qualify for the leaderboard as a team, meaning there will be no team score for the weekend event.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
While six golfers from the University of Hartford placed themselves among the top eight on the individual leaderboard, newcomer Joe Ensign placed himself right in the thick of the pack with a second-place finish on day one with a one-over-par. Ensign is one stroke back of Conor Byrne who leads the event after going even on the course and one stroke ahead of Hartford's Austin Gambel who sits two-over-par.
Besides Ensign, the only other non-Hartford golfer in that top eight is Mario Mateo of Gordon College who is in fourth at three-over-par with Bryce Zimmerman of the Hawks. Sophomores
Nathan Leonard and
Miles Maresch were the other two Post players to take to the links this afternoon in Bloomfield with both finishing tied for 16th place at seven-over-par in round one alongside three other golfers in AIC's Daniel Kibe, Hartford's Michael Amari, and New Haven's Aaron Browning.
The trio will compete in one final round tomorrow morning before the team gets ready for the Penmen Men's Spring Invitational at the Derryfield Country Club next Monday and Tuesday.Â
