Alyssa Groves Named AVCA and D2CCA All-East Region First Team, First Player Since 2015 from Women's Volleyball to Earn Both Honors in Same Season

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Junior libero Alyssa Groves continues to add to her list of accolades this season for Post University Women's Volleyball as she was named to both the D2CCA and AVCA All-East Region First Teams as announced by the organizations over the last two days.

The awards should come as no surprise as the Arizona native finished the 2024 campaign having won Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Year and being named to the All-Conference First Team earlier this month. Throughout the season, Groves was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week six times while appearing on the CACC Honor Roll three more times for a total of nine recognitions throughout the season.

It was a historic year for Groves who holds the single-season record in digs which is now set at 823 following this season and she became the program's all-time leader in total digs with 1,860 now after surpassing Kerry Smith's mark of 1,689 digs through the 2005-2008 seasons. The 823 digs this season currently puts her at an average of 6.92 digs per set and both of those marks put her at the top of the entire NCAA Division II for the most this season among all active players.

This is the first time since 2016 in which any Post player has made an All-Region Team when Skylar German was named to the D2CCA All-East Region First Team as well as Brianna Root was named to the Second Team. Groves is the first player since German that year to earn D2CCA All-East Region First Team Honors and the first since German in 2015 to earn AVCA All-East Region First Team honors. The 2015 awards for German also mark the last time in which a Post player has been named First Team in both the D2CCA and AVCA in the same season until Groves.

Earning First Team honors from both organizations makes Groves eligible to be the first All-American for Women's Volleyball since 2016 when Skylar German was named D2CCA All-American Third Team, but the junior would be only the second player in program history to be named All-American as German was named to it three times from 2014-2016. No Eagle has been named to the All-American team for the AVCA which would make Groves the first-ever to receive the accolade should she be selected. Both the D2CCA and AVCA All-American Team will be released on Wednesday, December 11th.
