WATERBURY, Conn. -- For the first time in eight years, Post University has an All-American player, but beyond that history was also made as junior
Alyssa Groves became the first player in program history to be named D2CCA All-American First Team, marking the first time ever an Eagle has made First Team in the organization. Groves is the second All-American player in Women's Volleyball history as she joins three-time All-American Skylar German in the record books who was named D2CCA Third Team twice as well as an Honorable Mention.
Just last week, Groves was named to the D2CCA and AVCA All-East Region First Teams after capping off her year as the first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Year from Post in addition to being named First Team All-Conference. During the regular season, Groves was named CACC Defensive Player of the Week six times and made the CACC Honor Roll three times. She is the program's all-time leader in digs with 1,689 after surpassing Kerry Smith's record of 1,689 digs set from 2005-2008 and still remains atop the NCAA Division II with the most single-season digs (823) and digs per set (6.92) for the entire season.
Groves is the only East Region player to be named to any of the D2CCA All-American teams this year and the first since Holy Family University's outside hitter Chase Wassel in 2018 to be named to the All-American First Team. Groves is the only East Region libero to ever be named to the D2CCA All-American First Team as well as the only East Region player alongside Wassel to be D2CCA All-American First Team since the award started. Additionally, Groves and Wassel are the only two players from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to be D2CCA All-American First Team in the NCAA era of the award's history.
