WATERBURY, Conn. -- For the sixth straight year of competition and the eighth time in program history, Post University Men's Soccer is headed back to the NCAA Tournament after being selected as the seventh seed in the 2024 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament Selection Show held on Monday night as one of the 10 total teams that made it to the big dance from Super Region 1.
Atop the bracket as the one seed was the University of Charleston (West Virginia) who will play host to at least the first couple of rounds which are slated to get underway on Friday afternoon. Eighth-seeded University of New Haven will face ninth-seeded Concord University in Friday's First Round matchup for the right to take on top-seeded Charleston on Sunday at 3:00 PM while fourth-seeded Gannon University and fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University play at noon on Sunday.
In the bottom half of the bracket which is hosted by two-seeded Southern New Hampshire University, the Penmen will await the winner of the seven versus ten matchup which features Post University as the seven seed against a newcomer to the tournament in the University of the District of Columbia, who won their first-ever East Coast Conference Championship over the weekend as the sixth seed over fifth-seeded Molloy University, on Friday afternoon at 3:00 PM. Third-seeded Bloomsburg University and CACC Champion sixth-seed Felician University square off on Sunday at 3:00 PM in their matchup.
For the Eagles, this will be their first time facing the Firebirds in program history as they seek to make it to their third consecutive Round of 16 and the fourth in the last five years of competing in the NCAA Tournament. Advancing past them would mean a date on Sunday in the Second Round against a familiar foe in the Penmen. In the early stages of the season, those two teams faced off at LaMoy Field with Southern New Hampshire coming out on top, 7-0, but in the last three head-to-head matches, Post is 1-1-1 against them and it would be the first time the two teams met each other in the NCAA Tournament ever.
Among all the teams in the bracket this year, the Eagles finished 1-4-1 as they defeated the University of New Haven at Dillon Stadium in September while tying Felician in the regular season before falling in the CACC Championship against them as well as dropping matches against Gannon, the Penmen, and Franklin Pierce who was ranked number one in the nation at the time the two sides played each other.
Should Post get by both the University of the District of Columbia and Southern New Hampshire, they would head to the Round of 16 which would take place on Sunday, December 1st against either Bloomsburg or Felician and if they advance again, head to the NCAA Quarterfinals on December 7th at the highest remaining seed in Super Region 1. The Semifinals and Finals of the 2024 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament take place on December 12th and 14th in Matthews, North Carolina at the Matthews Sportsplex and will be hosted by Wingate University.
