WATERBURY, Conn. -- Looking to continue building under second-year head coach
Tiffany Verni, Post University Women's Volleyball has been picked to finish second in the CACC North Division with the newly released Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll on Wednesday morning.
With that second place projection, the Eagles earned a total of 46 points but no first-place votes. last year's North Division runner-up University of Bridgeport was picked to win the division with 63 points and nine first-place votes. Just behind Post was Dominican University (N.Y.) with 43 points and one first-place vote while last year's division winner and CACC Championship runner-up Bloomfield College was slated for a fourth-place finish with two first-place votes in a tie with Caldwell University.
In the South Division, last' year's division champion and CACC Champion, Jefferson University, who steamrolled to a 15-2 regular season conference record before capturing the title over Bloomfield, earned first-place with 64 points and nine first place votes. Rounding out the top four was Holy Family University with 56 points and two first-place votes, Wilmington University with 42 points and one first-place vote, and then Georgian Court with 34 points.
The Eagles, led by Verni in her second season, are coming off another 10-20 season which saw them improve in the conference with an 8-10 record overall but placed them as the fourth seed in the North Division side of the tournament and a match up with South Division top-seeded Jefferson University in the quarterfinals.
Post would nearly pull off the upset against the 22-6 overall and 15-2 in conference Rams team who staved off eliminated with a 25-20 fourth set win and then took the match with a 15-11 victory in set five to end the Eagles' season.
Four transfers join Verni's team this fall with juniors
Kaila Sandy,
Caley Harper,
Tamara Radovanov, and
Hannah Brandt to shroe up their depth heading into the season. With their top three leaders in kills graduating at the end of last season, the four newcomers along with the returning juniors
Kaitlyn Lemmon and Collenn Romero will look to insert themselves into the offensive attack more often this fall.
The Eagles start their season on the road for a three match weekend in Rockville Centre, New York against Queens College on Friday, September 1st at 1:00 PM before facing University of Charleston and Molly University on Saturday at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM respectively.
