Goehrig Named CACC Player Of The Week For Second Time This Season; Portes Named To Honor Roll

Waterbury, CT  – Post University baseball player Matt Goehrig was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week after a record-breaking week while Justin Portes was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

It was the second time this season Goehrig was named CACC Player of the Week as he helped lead the Eagles to a 4-1 week while breaking the school record for career home runs.

Goehrig went 7-for-14 during the week with eight RBI, three home runs, two doubles and seven runs. He also had a 1.286 slugging percentage and a .650 on-base percentage.

In a performance in game one of a 10-7 win over Chestnut Hill on April 23, Goehrig became the second player in school history to hit three home runs in a game, while driving in four runs. In the top of the first inning, Goehrig hit a two-run homer to tie the school's all-time home record, his 24th of his career. His second home run, a solo shot in the top of the third inning, broke the all-time school record previously held by Don Walsh. He added another home solo home run in the top of the seventh. He now has nine home runs on the season.

In that same game, Goehrig earned the win, pitching 4.1 innings, striking out three.

During a 15-1 win over the University of Bridgeport on April 19, Goehrig went 2-for-2 with two doubles, four RBI, two runs, while drawing two walks.

In game one of a doubleheader - a 7-1 win over Bridgeport on April 22 - Goehrig went 2-for-4 with two runs.

This season, Goehrig is tied for second in homeruns and seventh in RBI with 33 in the CACC.
Portes

Portes pitched a gem in the 7-1 win over Bridgeport, pitching eight innings, giving up just one earned run on five hits while striking out seven.

Portes is currently 4-2 overall with a 3.60 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 40 innings pitch.

Eagles Move Up In NCBWA Poll
The Eagles moved up a spot in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll to the eighth spot after their week. The Eagles are currently 28-14 overall and 18-3 in the CACC. They can clinch a second straight CACC North Division title with a win over Felician on Tuesday, which will be played at 3 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
