Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Post University split a doubleheader with Queens on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one 6-4 before picking up the win in game two, 3-2.
In the game two win, the Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from
Jimmy Brennan that scored
DJ Caron to put Post up, 1-0 with one out. Caron led off the inning with a single.
Joe Christiana allowed just four runners on base over the first four innings, and in the bottom of the fourth the Eagles gave him two more runs as
Manny Contreras drove in a run with a single and a groundout from
Hunter Keller plated
Matthew Soloman.
The Knights scored two in the top of the sixth, the second run coming on an RBI single from Jorsixt Jimenez. But
Brennan Holligan - who came in relief for Christiana - was able to get out of the inning, leaving two runners stranded.
Holligan retired the Knights in order in the top of the seventh for his first save of the season. Christiana got the win, pitching 5.2 innings, striking out three and giving up just two runs on four hits.
In game one, the Eagles scored two runs in the first on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from
Robert Olah. Queens immediately got those to runs in the bottom of the inning, and took a 4-2 lead on a two-run triple from Francis Segarra.
The Eagles cut the deficit to in half on an RBi groundout by Olah in the top of the third.
After the Knights scored one in the bottom of the fourth, both teams' bats went quiet for a couple of innings, until the Eagles scored on an RBI single from
Michael Pavelchak made it a 5-4 game in the top of the seventh. The Knights added one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth and the Eagles left a runner on base in each of the final three innings.
Olah had two RBI on the day. Pavelchak was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.Â
The Eagles's pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts, with
Matt Goehrig leading the way with four in two innings.
Derek Duval pitched 4.2 innings and got the loss. He struck out three, giving up four runs.
Up next, the Eagles will take on Southern Connecticut State University at 9 a.m. in their final game in Myrtle Beach.
