Waterbury, CT – The Post University baseball team swept the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Awards, as
Michael Pavelchak won Player of the Week, while
Justin Portes was named Pitcher of the Week and
Derek Duval was named Rookie of the Week.
The Eagles went 3-1 over the weekend in their opening series against Saint Anselm in doubleheaders on Friday and Sunday.
Pavelchak got off to a hot start to the season going 11-for-18 from the plate with six RBI with five runs and a double.
In the first game of Friday's doubleheader, a 16-10 loss, Pavelchak went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. In the 7-4 game two win, Pavelchak had a perfect game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBI and a run.
During Sunday's game one 15-8 win, Pavelchak went 2-for-5 with a run, an RBI while drawing two walks. In a 10-0 win in game two, Pavelchak went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Pavelchak finished the weekend with a .667 on-base percentage.
For Portes, in his first start with the Eagles in the game two win on Sunday, Portes didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning as he pitched six innings while striking out five.
Duval earned the win in the game one win over the Hawks, throwing 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out one.
This is the second straight season the Eagles swept the CACC Weekly Awards in the first week of the season.
Post continues its season on Feb. 24 as they head to Myrtle Beach to take on Adelphi at 5 p.m.
