WATERBURY, Conn. -- Head Coach
Gretchen Silverman is looking to bolster her defense for the Post Women's Ice Hockey team next season as the Eagles landed defenseman Ruby Mitchell from Stouffville, Ontario, Canada in their second of four NLI Signing Day athletes last month for the 2024-25 season.
Mitchell brings over a decade of hockey experience to Post next year after starting at the age of three and continuing ever since. She would play a few years for the Markham Stouffville Stars before moving on to AA Bantam Hockey with the Scarborough Sharks in the Ontario Women's Hockey League (OWHL) for four seasons before going to the Toronto Aeros U18 AA Team. Mitchell would end up then returning to the Scarborough Sharks U18 AA squad for a couple of seasons (2020-21, 2021-22).
Playing in high school at Bill Hograth Secondary School, Mitchell would appear in four games during 2021, putting up seven goals and nine assists followed by two games in 2022 in which she scored four goals and tacked on three assists. That same year she would play in the U18 Stoney Creek Showcase Tournament and in five games score a goal and add four assists to her resume.
During 2022-23 League Play, Mitchell continued to dazzle with four goals and 16 assists and would end up moving on to the Barrie Jr. Sharks OWHL U22 team for this upcoming winter. So far through 15 games, Mitchell as four total points courtesy of her four assists and eight penalty minutes in that stretch.
In addition to her on-ice talent, Mitchell was also regionally placed from 2015-2019 in Cross Country as well as in the 100 Meter, 400 Meter, and 800 Meter events for Track & Field.
Coach Silverman said, "Ruby's mobility, physicality and vision will help secure the defensive zone, while helping to jump start the breakout for Post," when she comes to campus next fall.
