Box Score 2 Winter Haven, FL . - The Post University softball team won its first two games of the season, defeating Purdue-Northwest University, 5-1 and Shepherd University, 3-2 in eight innings on Sunday afternoon.
The wins were also the first two for head coach
Julie Meyer in her Post University career.
In game one,
Brianna Koref pitched a complete game, giving up just one unearned run on five hits and three walks while striking out three and also drove in two runs for the Eagles
After the Eagles spotted the Lions a run in the top of the second, Post tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from
Bailee Zaccaro that scored
Samantha Riccardulli who walked with one out in the inning.
The Eagles took a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the bottom of the fourth as
Alexa Pacy's singled scored
Allyson Wallauer who walked to lead off the inning.Â
Post put the game away in the bottom of the fifth as Wallauer's scored
Caitlin DeAngelis who singled to lead off the inning. With runners on second and third, Koref ripped a double to left to score Wallauer and
Kasey Jusino to put the Eagles up, 5-1.
Koref allowed just one runner on base the last two innings to earn her first win of the season.
Wallauer finished the day 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
In Post's second game against Shepherd, Zaccaro hit a go-ahead RBI single to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth to give the Eagles the win. Post jumped out to a 2-0 lead earlier in the game on an RBI triple by DeAngelis and an RBI single from Zaccaro in the top of the third before Shepherd tied the game on a twp-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
Alyssa Hughes earned the win for the Eagles.
