Trifonov Wins CACC DPOW; Seven Make All-CACC Team

Waterbury, CT – Antoine Trifonov of the Post University men's soccer team was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Year and was among seven Eagles named to the All-Conference team as the conference announced its yearly awards.

Trifonov was also named to the All-CACC first team, along with defender Stephen Sprowson, forward Gentian Selimi and midfielder Sergio Sanchez. Forward Francisco Sousa, midfielder Carles Aliberch and goalkeeper Soren Jensen were named to the All-CACC second team.

For Trifonov, he is the first Eagle to be named CACC Defensive Player of the Year, anchoring a backline that allowed just nine goals all season and only five in CACC games, which were both the fewest amount allowed in the conference. The Eagles rank fifth in Division II in goals against average and tied for fourth in shutout percentage. The Eagles had 11 shutouts on the season. Trifonov also had a goal in a 2-0 win over Holy Family on September 10.

Trifonov is the eighth major CACC award winner in program history.

All-CACC

Trifonov's backline teammate, Sprowson makes the All-CACC first team for the first time. He finished with a goal and three assists this season. His lone goal came in a 4-0 win over Georgian Court on October 1 and an assist in wins over Goldey-Beacom, D'Youville and Felician.

Sanchez makes the All-CACC team for the second straight season as a midfielder, scoring his lone goal of the season in a 2-0 win over Holy Family. He was fourth on the team in total shots on the season with 24. He has 13 goals and ten assists in his career.

Selimi made the All-CACC team for the first time, as he was tied for second on the team in goals with five and second in assists with four for 14 points on the year. Selimi had one of the most exciting moments of the season, scoring a game-winning goal in the 84th minute in a 1-0 win over American International College in the team's opening game. He scored two goals in a 9-0 win over D'Youville and a goal in consecutive wins over Jefferson and Domnican in the final two regular season games of the season. He was fourth in the CACC in game-winning goals with three.

Sousa makes the All-CACC second team for the first time in his career, leading the Eagles in goals with six to go along with three assists. He also led the Eagles in points with 15. In a 5-0 win over Goldey-Beacom on September 17, Sousa netted his first career hat trick. He also scored the game-tying goal in the 64th minute in a match against Bridgeport that ended in a 1-1 tie.

Aliberch made his first appearance on the team after finishing the season with a goal and five assists. His lone goal in the season came in a 3-0 win over Felician on September 28. The following game, against Georgian Court, he finished with three assists, all off of headers on a corner kick.

Jensen finished his regular season in net going 7-0-2 as he makes his first appearance on the All-CACC team. He logged five shutouts to go with a CACC-leading .885 save percentage and 0.36 goals against average. He allowed just three goals on the season.

The seven members of the All-CACC team are the second most in program history, only surpassed by the eight that were named in the 2013 season.
