Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University softball team mounted two comebacks thanks to some late game heroics and defeated Concordia, 4-3 (8) and 3-2 in a thrilling Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader.

Samantha Riccardulli led off the bottom of the eighth in game one with a single, advancing to second on a single by Cassidy Petrie and to third on a fly out by Demi Rivera. Caitlin DeAngelis then followed with a fly ball into right field foul territory, which was caught. Riccardulli tagged and sprinted home, beating the throw and giving the Eagles the win.

It was the defense of DeAngelis in the top of the eighth that gave the Eagles a chance in the bottom of the inning. The Clippers had runners on first and second with one out when Stephanie Ryder hit a scorching grounder to DeAngelis at shortstop. DeAngelis fielded the ball cleanly tagged second and threw to first for the double play to end the inning.

Post got on the board in the third after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning as a groundout by Petrie drove in Brittany Giordano to cut its deficit in half. The Eagles added a run in the fourth on an error on a fielder's choice. Concordia catcher Carly Berezny tried to get Bailee Zaccaro out at third after she started coming home and threw the ball in to right field to score Zaccaro and tie the game at two.

The Eagles had an opportunity to score in the bottom of the seventh, but left a runner stranded on third.

Bridget Betley earned the win, throwing three scoreless innings in relief. Starter Kelsey Strayer struck out three in her five inning outing.

Game two had no shortage of drama, either.

The Eagles entered the bottom of the sixth trailing 3-2 and started their rally with a one out double by Zaccaro. Two batters later, DeAngelis – the game one hero – doubled to centerfield scoring Zaccaro tying the game, 3-3.

It set the stage for Alexa Pacy, who ripped a single down the third base line, scoring Julia Maida – who pinch ran for DeAngelis – to give Post the 4-3 lead.

Rivera – who came in the sixth inning to pitch – shut down the Clippers in the seventh to give the Eagles the win.

The Eagles again fell behind 2-0 to start the game, but got on the board in the third on an RBI single that scored Pacy, who walked to start the inning.

Concordia (6-6) scored one more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the inning, but the Eagles answered with an RBI single from Petrie to score Pacy who again led the inning off with a walk.

The Eagles are now 9-5 on the season, sitting in fifth place in the CACC.

Post has won seven in a row against Concordia.

Up next, the Eagles will play a doubleheader at Dominican on Tuesday, beginning at 3 p.m.
