"We didn't play well in the first half but were able to create some chances as the game went on," said Haley. "It took a while for us them down, but I'm proud that the guys were able to regroup and get the job done."
Early in the second overtime period, senior
Francisco Sastre (Sao Paolo, Brazil) passed ahead to classmate
Jacob Butler-Bowdon (Adelaide, Australia) who was up on attack from the back line. Butler-Bowdon whipped a cross into Asante who headed home the winner in his Eagles' debut.
Post put pressure on the Falcons early in the game with two shots on goal in the first two minutes, but only managed one more shot the remainder of the half. Bentley recorded eight shots in the first with one on goal.
The Eagles got on track in the second half, outshooting Bentley 4-1, but neither team could break through. Sophomore
Vinicius Lelis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had a chance late in regulation but his shot was saved by Falcons' keeper Jack Blatchford.
The lone shot on goal for either team in the first overtime was saved by Eagles' junior keeper
Serigne Baba Gaye (Dakar, Senegal). He finished with two saves on the day to earn the shutout victory.
Post was outshot 11-9 on the day, but held a 4-2 advantage on net. Senior
Tiago Martins (Lamas de Olo, Portugal) and sophomore
Armando Filho (Cataguases, Brazil) each had two shots.
Haley, in his 11
th year at Post, improves his career record to 100-71-24 and has been the head coach for all but four of the Eagles' wins as an NCAA institution. He is the third active coach in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with to hit the century mark.
"Reaching the milestone is great, but there's no time to celebrate. We have a tough match ahead of us against a very-good Merrimack team," added Haley.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday against #15 Merrimack at 3 p.m.
