Wilmington And Felician Come To Town

Waterbury, Conn. -  The Post University baseball team will play its first home games of the season as it takes on Wilmington and Felician in two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheaders this week before taking on Mercy in an out-of-conference doubleheader.

The Eagles are coming off of a split doubleheader against Caldwell on April 2. The Eagles dropped the first game - a 2-1 pitchers' duel in 10 innings - before winning game two, 4-1.

The Eagles are 9-12 overall and 5-3 in the CACC. They are currently in fifth place in the conference.

Recapping The Last Time Out

Post received two stellar pitching performances that day. In game one, grad student Zach Batchelor (Monroe Township, N.J.) pitched a complete game 9.1 innings, giving up two earned runs, on seven hits while striking out ten in the loss. In game two, sophomore Evan Devico pitched seven innings, giving up one run on eight hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Freshman Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) pitched two innings of perfect relief for the save.

The lone run in game one for the Eagles came off the bat of senior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.), who homered to left field to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth inning. In game two, sophomore Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) led the offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Pastor also scored two runs.

Top Ten

A couple of Eagles have found themselves in the top ten in some key statistical categories. Freshman Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) is tied for second in home runs with three. On the mound, Costello is fourth in strikeouts with 38. Batchelor is tied for ninth with 31.

Wildcats Have The Top Spot

The Eagles will be tested when they take on Wilmington on April 9 at 1 p.m. The Wildcats are currently 20-7 overall and undefeated in the CACC at 10-0. They are dominating on both sides of the ball, outscoring CACC opponents, 93-20 on the season. One of their many weapons on offense is Sam Goines who is second in the CACC in batting average at .392 and sixth in RBI with 19. Teammates Mike Annone and Matt Lopes are tied for second in RBI with 27 and in home runs with three.

On the mound, Jamie Treml leads the league in ERA at a stingy 0.64.

Last season, the Wildcats were the defending CACC regular season champions. They fell in the finals to Felician, 8-3.

Post is 5-32 overall against Wilmington. The Eagles dropped a doubleheader last season to the Wildcats.

Defending Champions Come To Town

The defending CACC tournament champions, Felician Golden Falcons will come to town on April 11 at noon, carrying a 12-17 overall record and 6-3 record in the CACC. Branden Shaw and Brennan Price are the biggest offensive threats on the team. Shaw is tops in the CACC in RBI with 30. He is also tied for second in home runs with three. Shaw  has 20 RBI on the season, good for a fourth-place tie in that category. He also has three home runs on the season.

All-time, Post is 12-24 against Felician. The Golden Falcons won both games of a doubleheader last season against the Eagles.

Oh, Mercy

Mercy comes to town on April 12 at noon. The Mavericks are 6-17 overall and 2-10 in the CACC. Mercy is coming off of a 6-2 win over Bridgeport on April 6. The Mavericks had lost their previous three games. Scott Hagen leads the team in home runs with two and is tied with Bryan Greig in RBI with 12.

Post is 6-2 all-time against Mercy, including a 6-5 win their last meeting in 2010.
