Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University Eagles baseball team has two tough Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheaders on the road as they take on on Dominican on Wednesday, April 1 and Caldwell on April 2.
The Eagles are currently 8-9 overall and 4-0 in the CACC. They are sitting in second place in the conference. They have won four straight games.
Last week, the Eagles went 4-0, sweeping both USciences on March 25 (6-3, 2-0) and Philadelphia March 28 (5-0, 5-4) in doubleheaders.
Walsh Honored
Freshman Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) was named Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance in both doubleheaders. Walsh was 3-for-5 with four RBI, including a three-run homer to break a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning in a 6-3 game one win over USciences.Â
In game two against Philadelphia, he went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in a 5-4 win.
Walsh currently in ninth in RBI in the CACC with 13 RBI and tied for first in home runs with three.
Top Ten
Aside from Walsh, other Eagles have made their way into the top ten in key statistical categories.
Pitcher and grad student Mike Costello (Manassas, Va.) is tied for fourth in the CACC in strikeouts with 29. He is also sixth in in the CACC in ERA at 2.28. Classmate Zach Batchelor (Monroe Township, N.J.) is tenth in strikeouts with 21.
About Dominican
The Dominican Chargers are in ninth place in the CACC with a 2-9 overall record and 0-2 record in the conference. They have dropped four straight games, including a 4-1 out-of-conference game to Bridgeport. They are led by junior Leonardo Bravo who leads the team in hits (13), home runs (one), batting average (.382) and on-base percentage (.447).
The Eagles are just 11-38 overall, but did sweep the Chargers last season in a doubleheader, winning 5-2 and 2-0.
About Caldwell
The Cougars have had a rough start to the season, as they are in tenth place in the CACC with a 2-13 overall record and 0-4 record in the CACC. They have dropped their last 10 games, including a doubleheader sweep at home against Chestnut Hill. Offensively, Ryan Rivera leads the way with two home runs and eight RBI. He also has a .478 slugging percentage and has walked ten times. Dominick Orlando leads the team in hits with 15.
The Cougars and Eagles are deadlocked head-to head, as they each have won 22 games. The Eagles swept the Cougars last season, 3-2 and 4-1
