Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University baseball team looks to build on a doubleheader sweep in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener as it takes on Philadelphia on Saturday at noon.Â
The Eagles have already had success playing in the City of Brotherly Love this week as they defeated USciences, 6-3 and 2-0 on March 25.Â
Post now sits at 6-9 overall and 2-0 in the CACC. They are in third place in the conference.
During game one of the doubleheader, freshman Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) belted a three-run homer to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh to help lead the Eagles to the win. Junior Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) also drove in three runs for Post.Â
In game two, the Eagles got a dominant pitching performance by grad student Mike Costello (Manassas, Va.) struck out 12 in a nine inning complete game to lead the Eagles to the win.
Head-To-Head
All-time, the Eagles lead the head-to-head series against Philadelphia, 15-7. Last season, the teams split a doubleheader in Philadelphia. Post won the first game, 4-2 before falling to the Rams in the second game, 3-1.
Top Ten
With their performances in the wins over USciences, Walsh and Costello have moved up in some key statistical categories. Walsh is now tied for the CACC in home runs with three. He is tied for fourth in RBI with 13.
On the mound, Costello's gem put him fourth in strikeouts with 29. He is eighth in the CACC in ERA at 2.28.
Ram Tough
Philadelphia has had an up and down season so far, going 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the CACC and are in sixth place in the conference. They are coming off of an 8-1 win at Bloomfield on March 26.Â
Ken McCormick is the top offensive threat for the Rams, leading the team in home runs (two), RBI (nine) and runs (nine).
