PREVIEW: Softball Looks To Build On 2014 Success

Post Begins Season Sunday Against Assumpion

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team is set to open its 2015 campaign in Clermont, Fla. as part of the NTC Spring Games. The Eagles will play 10 games in a five-day span beginning with Assumption College on Sunday, March 1 and will close out the week on Thursday, March 5 with Ashland University.

Post is scheduled for 52 regular season games with 26 against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents. Post will play its first game after the trip on the road at Adelphi University on Thursday, March 12 and play host to Felician College on Wednesday, March 18 in its home opener at LaMoy Field. The Eagles are scheduled to finish the regular season in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday, April 25 against University Of The Sciences with hopes to get back to the CACC Tournament in 2015.

The Eagles finished with an overall record of 24-22 a season ago, with an 18-8 conference record. Seven of these losses came to teams in the Clermont, Fla. series. The Eagles finished with an impressive 12-4 record at LaMoy Field and recorded the most conference wins since joining Division II. In 2014, Post entered the CACC Tournament as the third seed and defeated both Dominican and Georgian Court in the first round. Post would later be eliminated in day two with losses to Wilmington and Georgian Court.

According to the CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll, Post was picked to finish sixth in the conference with 122 votes. The Eagles will return one .300 hitter from last season in sophomore Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.). The Eagles will also lean on junior Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) to bring some offensive firepower to the lineup. Kresley led the team with seven homeruns last season and recorded 27 runs batted in.

Post will bring back its entire 2014 pitching staff led by senior Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) and junior Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.). Tracey Garofalo enters her eighth season as head softball coach. She was named CACC Coach of the Year in 2014 and is determined to make another splash in the CACC in the coming season.
