Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) launched a shot from just outside the box in the 88
th minute to give the #24 Post University men's soccer team a 4-3 victory over Franklin Pierce in its opener at LaMoy Field on Thursday afternoon. The goal was Moura's second of the game.

The Eagles opened up the match strong with two goals in the first 14 minutes. Junior
Gustavo Ferreira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) put Post on the board first in the 11
th minute. Senior
Henry Ipina (Danbury, Conn.) bent a corner towards goal that deflected off junior
Francisco Sastre (Sao Paolo, Brazil) to Ferreira for the score. Two minutes late junior
Tiago Martins (Porto, Portugal) headed in the rebound off a shot by Sastre to give Post and early 2-0 lead.

Bruno Fati found Dallas Donovan for a header in the 25
th minute to cut the lead to 2-1. The Eagles answered quickly as Moura scored on a misplayed ball by the Ravens' keeper to put Post in front 3-1 heading into the break.

Franklin Pierce took control early in the second half as Casey Schehl headed in a corner off the foot of Lorris Cortijo to make the score 3-2 in the 52
nd minute. Donovan tied the score in the 75
th minute off a rebound.

"We gave up the momentum we created in the first half by letting them score early in the second and it was difficult for us to get that back. They changed their shape and we didn't deal with it as well as we should," said head coach
Ted Haley.

Moura nearly put Post ahead in the 79
th minute on a breakaway that was knocked away.

Sophomore
Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) made five stops in goal after coming in in the second half and earned the victory in net.

The Eagles were outshot 14-11 on the day and 10-4 in the second half.

"We are a young team and I'm proud that that they kept their heads and battled against such a good team. Now it is about learning from our mistakes and getting better each day," added Haley.

Next up, Post heads north to face defending National Champion #1 Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.. Last season the Eagles were the only team to beat the Penmen who finished 21-1-1.
