Recap: Loss Brings Baseball Season To An End

Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University baseball team's season came to an end on Thursday as it dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 1 seed and defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion, Wilmington in the CACC tournament on Thursday afternoon in New Castle, Del.

The Eagles finished the season at 17-22-1 and 10-11 in CACC play. 

Post jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as senior Alex Beland (Trois Riviere, Quebec) hit a solo home run.

The Wildcats (33-8-1) would tie it in the bottom half of the inning, then take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Matt Lopes.

Post would then tie it up at 2-2 as sophomore Eduardo Familia (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) singled to score senior Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.).

However, the Wildcats got to starting junior Don Crook in the bottom of the sixth as they took a 3-2 lead on an RBI triple by Annone in the sixth. They would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Josh Hampton and a sacrifice fly by Lopes.

Crook (6-2) finished the game giving up five earned runs on seven hits and four walks, with three strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.

Shada and senior Julien Casaubon (Joliette, Quebec) finished the day 2-for-4. Familia was 2-for-3.
