Eagles’ Season Ends In CACC Tournament

Post Finishes With Best Record Since 2009

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – With two losses on Saturday one of the most successful season in recent Post University softball history came to an end in the second round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament. The Eagles finished the year with a 24-20 record and were 18-8 in conference play.

Game One: #5 Wilmington 6, #3 Post 0
Errors hurt the Eagles against Wilmington as two misplays by Post in the second inning helped the Wildcats load the bases with just one out. Kelsey Doherty hit a grand slam to center to put Wilmington in front 4-0.

Post threatened in the fourth inning. After a groundout to open the frame, freshman Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) singled to left field. Senior Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) moved her over to third with a single up the middle. The bases were loaded with one out after freshman Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) drew a walk. The next two Eagles popped out to end the scoring chance.

From there just three Eagles would reach base for the remainder of the game as senior Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) doubled in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) and DeMartino each walked in the fifth. The Wildcats would add two more runs on a home run and a double.

Game Two: #2 Georgian Court 4, #3 Post 3
Both teams scattered hits throughout the first few innings. The first three Georgian Court batters in the third inning all hit singles to give the Lions an early 2-0 lead.

Senior Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Erb led off the fifth with base hits. Erb would be thrown out on a double play. Senior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) put runners at the corners with two outs on a base hit to center. Owens drove in the first Eagles' run with a double down the line.

The Lions answered back in the bottom of the inning with two hits to extend their advantage out to 3-1 after five.

Sclafani doubled to left center to open the seventh. After a groundout moved her over to third, sophomore Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) doubled to right to cut the deficit to 3-2. Owens came up with a two-out single, her third hit of the game, to tie the score 3-3 before a lineout ended the inning.

The first Lion in the bottom of the inning reached on an error and later advanced to third on a single by Taylor Boltersdorf. Boltersdorf stole second to put two in scoring position with just one out. Dara Schroder hit a weak grounder to first, but an errant throw allowed the winning run to score.

The Lions move on to face Wilmington in the championship on Sunday. One win by Wilmington or two by Georgian Court will decided the champion.
The Eagles won their most CACC games (18) since they joined Division II in 2002.
