Box Score 2 WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team swept Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Nyack in its Think Pink game on Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Eagles rallied to take the first game 5-2 before putting on a hitting clinic in game two, a 9-0 victory in five innings. Post used the game as a chance to support breast cancer awareness and raised approximately $750 for the cause.
Game One – Post 5, Nyack 2 Nyack came out with an early 2-0 in the first game led by Meghan Richards' RBI singles in both the first and third innings. Post finally got the offense going in the fourth inning when redshirt freshman
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) and senior
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) both scored on a passed ball to tie it up.
The Eagles extended the lead in the fifth inning starting with an RBI single by freshman
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.). Later on in the inning, Udris knocked in Kresley and senior
Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) with a single to right field to give Post a 5-2 lead.
Junior pitcher
Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) got the start and gave up two earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. Sophomore
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) came on in relief and snagged the win after giving up just three hits in 2.2 scoreless innings.
Game Two – Post 9, Nyack 0 F/5 The bats came alive for Post in the second game as the Eagles corralled nine runs and 11 hits. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a single from Erb that scored both senior
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Ragazzone.
Post scored seven of its nine runs in the third and fourth innings which was ignited by a solo homerun from DeMartino in the bottom of the third. Kresley then picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly and Udris hit an RBI double to make it 5-0 after three innings.
Erb hit an RBI single and Kresley drew a walk with the bases loaded to keep the offensive attack rolling in the fourth. Senior
Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) then brought in Ragazzone on a single to right before Erb came home on a sacrifice fly hit by Udris to extend the lead to 9-0.
Ragazzone scored three runs, Erb was a perfect 3-for-3 in game two and Udris compiled 4 RBI between both games. Esque (5-5) got the start in the latter game and picked up her second win of the day. She gave up only one hit and struck out three batters in five scoreless innings.
On Deck: Post (12-14, 8-4 CACC) will head to Felician on Thursday, April 10 for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
